A funky little jam from Playback, a boxed set that has three discs of unreleased Petty tracks and b-sides. Good stuff!
2. Pearl Jam – “Bugs”
Over a grating accordion melody, Vedder sings about being invaded and ultimately assimilated by bugs. Pearl Jam ruled the universe for about three or four years.
3. Nirvana – “Aneurysm”
“She keeps it pumping straight to my heart!!” Freakin’ great stuff. One of the best Nirvana tracks of all time.
4. Nazareth – “Holiday”
Other than “Hair of the Dog,” I’m completely new to these 70s rock and rollers. Not a bad band, but horribly slammed by critics of the time.
5. Enuff Z’Nuff – “Without Your Love”
A bluesy little number from Josh’s favorite, “crazy-retarded-yo” band of all freakin’ time.
6. Slayer – “Raining in Blood”
Here comes the apocalypse. If you plan on leaving your home don’t forget to bring an umbrella, ‘cuz it’s “Raining Blood.” Thrash metal at it’s very finest. Four minutes of pure brutality.
7. Chris Isaak – “I Wonder”
Um yeah, I’m a dork for not just liking Chris Isaak... but for liking him a lot. I have all of his albums, saw him in concert, and exchanged e-mails with his drummer. Side note: I had a full cup of beer thrown in my face by some birch who got into a cat fight in front of me at my second Chris show. She missed her target…completely. I smelled like beer all night long.
8. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! – “Clap Your Hands!”
And you think Enuff Z’Nuff is a gay name for a band. These guys got a lot of buzz a couple of years ago. This song kind of sounds like Dr. Dog, but it’s not them. That’s about all I can say.
9. AC/DC – “Highway to Hell”
Classic AC/DC. One of the best hard rock songs of all time.
10. Sarah McLachlan – “Silent Night”
Sarah McLachlan has a wonderful voice and a couple of great albums, but this track (though done quite well) is out of place… especially following AC/DC. There is no way around it, I loose this shuffle war.
